100 people offered free cooking lessons in East Manchester

On Sunday 6 July, 100 people from East Manchester will have a chance to learn how to cook up a great meal. The Community Cooking Roadshow “cooking pods” will be at New Smithfield Market in Openshaw from 11am - 2pm, and will teach local people how to cook three different delicious meals. As well as the FREE cooking lesson and FREE meal, all participants will receive recipes, ingredients, and store cupboard spices to take away, to inspire them to recreate the meal at home.

Manchester City Council are looking for organisations that want to get involved in the Talk English project to host informal beginner English courses for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) from October 2014 – June 2015. Manchester City Council will support your organisation to deliver the Talk English Courses which will be taught by a pair of volunteers trained and supported through the project.

Help shape alcohol services

Manchester City Council are looking for your views on alcohol early intervention and treatment services, to help them decide how to improve them.

These services help people understand how alcohol affects them and those around them and they help people manage, reduce or stop drinking. A quarter of Manchester's adults could be drinking to risky levels.

The survey asks what you think is important in these services and asks how these services should be delivered, and what results you think are important.

New online donations service for small and medium size charities

The Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) have announced the launch of a new donation processing platform to make it easier for charities to raise money.

CAF Donate is a new platform that will help free up small and medium size charities from the administrative burden of processing donations on and offline and make it easy for them to accept regular donations by Direct Debit, as well as one-off gifts.

Charity Commission launches consultation on Annual Return 2015

The Charity Commission, the independent regulator of charities in England and Wales, has launched a consultation on a number of proposals for changes to the Annual Return for 2015.

The announcement follows previous consultations in 2012 and 2013, when the regulator reviewed the information it collects and makes publicly available from registered charities, through the Annual Return and at registration. The findings of the consultations helped inform changes to the content of the Annual Return for 2013 and 2014.
