Prepare for the charity annual return 2018

Last year The Charity Commission consulted with the charity sector about the annual return for 2018. Based on the outcome of this consultation The Charity Commission are introducing a tailored annual return later this summer. It will include new questions that charities can start preparing for now. During The Festival of Ageing’s opening celebrations, Manchester’s Mayor, Andy Burnham issued his age-friendly communities mayoral challenge. He is asking the voluntary and community sector, public services, and older people’s groups to submit their best age-friendly schemes with a view to helping to create even more age-friendly neighbourhoods across Greater Manchester. Putting the Government’s new LGBT Action Plan into practice – Greater Manchester Schools Achieve the Rainbow Flag Award

This week the Government launched its national LGBT Action Plan to ensure the rights of our lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans citizens. In particular it revealed that “gay cure” therapies are still being offered in the UK, and that 19% of LGBT pupils get verbally harassed and insulted at school. Local organisation, The Proud Trust, has contributed to the action plan to tackle discrimination and has met with 10 Downing Street to explore ways all young people can receive inclusive and positive opportunities.

The options are (more youth partners joining every week):

Xaverian College (A Level Law students), Rusholme
• Mentor for 1 hour per half term until Jan 2019
• Assist mentees to make decisions about furthering their studies and offer, where available, work place visits
