New audio podcasts from the Charity Commission - Helping trustees tackle challenges and prevent problems at their charities

The Charity Commission, the regulator of charities in England and Wales, has published two new audio podcasts, designed to help charity trustees understand their duties under charity law.

Over two podcasts, trustees can hear from experienced Commission staff about the principles of some of the regulators guidance. The new episodes include:

The Manchester Common Assessment Framework (MCAF) is a key part of Manchester’s Early Help Strategy and the Threshold of Need Document. Participation by voluntary and community sector (VCS) groups in MCAF is low in Manchester and nationally and the majority of engagement is with a small number of established medium to large voluntary sector organisations (£100,000 ->£1,000,000 funding) that employ professional staff.

Manchester City Council's Public Health Team are reviewing the mainstream School Nursing Service

Manchester City Council's Public Health Team are currently reviewing the mainstream School Nursing Service, which delivers school nursing provision to mainstream Primary and Secondary Schools, Academies, Free Schools, Pupil Referral Units and the Federation Schools.

They want to understand the experiences and expectations of the service from a wide range of interested parties and to assess how the service is currently meeting the needs of Manchester children, young people and their families.

Age-friendly Manchester Small Grants Fund 2014

The Age-friendly Small Grants fund provides small grants of up to £300 for projects that benefit older people living in the City of Manchester. Priority is given to grant applications looking to provide sustainable support to community groups and projects in Manchester and in particular projects tackling social isolation and loneliness.

Applications are accepted from voluntary organisations, community groups and charities.

FareShare Greater Manchester - Free food to play and youth providers

FareShare Greater Manchester fights hunger and tackles food waste by redistributing surplus food to over 100 charities in the region. They source food from the food and drinks industry, from donations and food drives, and also by capturing surplus edible fruit and vegetables at New Smithfield Market where they’re based.

On average they redistribute six tonnes of food every week.

FareShare Greater Manchester are keen to work with Manchester based play and youth providers over the summer holidays to help support children, young people and families at risk of food poverty.

Wythenshawe Games 2014 – Get involved

Established in 2012 as a legacy of the London Olympic and Paralympic Games, Wythenshawe Games is a large community sports festival, which takes place every year in one of Manchester’s most disadvantaged communities. The Games centre around a drop-in sports festival in Wythenshawe Park, one of Manchester’s most beautiful community parks and host to some great community sports facilities - an athletics track, tennis courts, bowling greens, football pitches, a community farm and an historic Hall.

Manchester City Centre gains two new Community Organisers

Manchester City Centre has just seen the arrival of two new Community Organisers, who aim to listen to at least 1000 people and recruit a group volunteers interested in improving their local communities in the Northern Quarter and Ancoats.

Alice Toomer and Sherelle Fairweather will be listening to and working with the communities of the Northern Quarter and Ancoats over the next year, being hosted by the Young Advisors Charity based in the Northern Quarter.

Manchester Safeguarding Children’s Board Policy and Procedures update

Core Safeguarding Procedures
The Manchester Safeguarding Children’s Board (MSCB) and Executive have taken the decision to adopt the Greater Manchester Safeguarding Partnership (GMSP) online safeguarding procedures; these will replace the MSCB Core Safeguarding Procedures which were last updated in 2010.
