Family Action's Manchester Young Carers Forum - Young Carers and school survey

Family Action's Manchester Young Carers Forum (MYCF) have recently been involved in a national Family Action campaign about young carers and school, entitled ‘Be Bothered’. As a result of this involvement the Forum have decided to undertake their own research, in the form of a survey, into young carers at school in Manchester aged between 8 and 18.

Clayton Vale Mountain Bike Trails

The new £894,000 Clayton Vale Mountain Bike Trail and skills area/ pump track at the National Cycling Centre, east Manchester, will open in May 2013 (the skills area is open now)

The 10.5km mountain bike trail will have unrestricted free access and allow mountain-bikers to enjoy off road rides on a large formal network within the Clayton Vale Local Nature Reserve.

Race on the Agenda petition to protect the Public Sector Equality Duty

Race on the Agenda have started the petition "The British Government: Keep the Public Sector Equality Duty" and need your help to get it off the ground.

If you are affected disproportionately by stop and search policies, school exclusions, poor access to public services or other forms of institutional discrimination, the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) is the only provision within the law to fight such institutional discrimination effectively.

Manchester: A Certain Future is a stakeholder Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) for the city of Manchester. It sets out the actions that will need to be taken by citizens and organisations in the city in order to meet two objectives by 2020: reducing CO2 emissions by 41%; changing the culture to one appropriate for a low carbon city.

Top prize is £200 in cold hard cash.  There are second and third prizes too!

Word limit is 2000 words.  Entries close Friday 16th August, and winners will be announced at a public event held during Manchester Literature Festival.

The Hilden Charitable Fund - Summer Play Schemes 2013

The Hilden Charitable Fund has allocated a small budget to help community groups run summer play schemes for disadvantaged communities. Some priority will be given to projects which show they are inclusive of children from refugee families, and show BME involvement.

Grants awarded range from £500 to £1,500.

What will be funded:
• Projects for children aged 5 to 18 years
• Locally based schemes lasting from 2 to 6 weeks
• Schemes with strong volunteer support
