Social Value and the Magic Money Tree
I’ve been involved in Greater Manchester Social Value Network since its beginning in 2015. I have been to dozens of meetings about social value, run many workshops, attended a fair few conferences and, despite the efforts of the network and other social value organisations, there is still a lot of basic misunderstanding about some aspects of a social value approach. One of the mistakes I come across frequently is the confusion of social value with “additional” or “on-top” value and that’s what this blog is about.

As you may already know, Manchester Health and Care Commissioning (MHCC) in partnership with Manchester City Council (MCC) are launching a Population Health Fund which is split into an Older People’s Fund and a Fund for the First 1000 Days of a Child’s Life.
The North Manchester Over 50’s into Employment Pilot is a test and learn project to deliver a bespoke service to support over 50’s residents who have been long term unemployed to enable them to move closer to the labour market or into employment.
Caring, Working, Living led by GMCVO and delivered in partnership with Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, is a Greater Manchester wide project that will target mainly private sector small and medium employers, and support them to develop their recruitment and employment practices to make job opportunities more accessible to Returners.
Groundwork in Greater Manchester and the Environment Agency would like to invite environmental volunteers to take part in a survey. This survey is for anyone involved in a local community or voluntary group including local charities, E-NGOs and community interest companies (CICs).
Greater Manchester Suicide Bereavement Information Service is a new service (hosted by the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership) launched for all residents/staff/services for the Greater Manchester area, to offer information and resources for individuals bereaved or affected by suicide.
