£1m available to fund urgent small-charity coronavirus poverty relief from Martin Lewis

Martin Lewis is releasing £1,000,000 from my personal charity fund to provide grants of £5,000 to £20,000 to small registered charities, or local arms of bigger charities, across the UK – to help with specific UK coronavirus-related poverty relief projects.

Examples could include foodbanks, charities engaged in community aid, financial advice help and more. The hope is to get the money distributed within the next couple of weeks, and Martin Lewis is looking for projects that are up and running, or are in the process of being set up – to help to deliver help at speed.

National Emergencies Trust launches coronavirus fundraising appeal

National Emergencies TrustThe National Emergencies Trust (NET) has launched a coronavirus fundraising appeal to raise funds for local charities. The British Red Cross will be managing donations.  NET will award grants and distribute money raised through a number of charitable organisations, for example local community foundations.

ACORN's petition to protect renters

ACORN is currently pushing for the government to protect renters against the economic impact that the outbreak may have on them. The petition calls on the Government to enact temporary rent freezes for renters suffering with the virus or self isolating for the period of their self isolation and recovery. The measures brought in on 18 March banning any applications for new evictions in the next 3 months still compel renters to repay any rent payments they can't afford at this time through a future payment plan.
