Travel Choices is offering grants to businesses for schemes which encourage employees to make sustainable travel choices.

Whether you want to build bike storage facilities at your premises so staff can cycle to work, put in an electric vehicle charging point or run an event to promote sustainable travel to staff, you can apply for up to £10,000 to make it happen.

Residents urged to take action to avoid winter fuel hikes

Greater Manchester residents who are worried about their energy bills rising this winter are being urged to switch to better deals using a new comparison website.

The www.betterenergydeals.org.uk site has been launched by the Greater Manchester authorities after some of the big energy companies announced they will be increasing their rates over the winter, leaving many families struggling to pay their bills.

Galaxy Hot Chocolate Fund awards

Help the Homeless Grants

Help The Homeless gives grants up to £5,000 for capital costs to small and medium-sized registered charities (those with a turnover of under £1m per annum).

They fund projects that assist individuals in their return to mainstream society, rather than simply offer shelter or other forms of sustenance.

The next deadline is 31 December 2013.

Greater Manchester's A Better Start bid

Planning for the Greater Manchester ‘A Better Start’ bid has begun in earnest. Researchers commissioned by the Big Lottery Fund have been undertaking well-being surveys with 3,000 families across Greater Manchester, focusing on the challenges faced by families and children. This will help form the evidence base for the Greater Manchester bid.

Funding for mental health engagement

Manchester’s Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG’s) and Manchester City Council (MCC) are working together to redesign mental health and wellbeing services with an intention to commission new services from April 2015. Macc are helping them to co-ordinate their engagement with the voluntary and community sector which will take place from mid November 2013 for a 12 week period.

Space is required to rent, from which this arts-based mental health service can be delivered: offices for 10 people, meetings rooms, storage rooms and at least 3 studio spaces (rooms that will accommodate up to 8 people, with sinks) required in Hulme, Whalley Range, Ancoats, Miles Platting, Rusholme, Fallowfield, or Longsight areas, or in central Manchester.

Rethinking Parks – Nesta, the Heritage Lottery and the Big Lottery Fund

Over the next two years, Nesta, The Heritage Lottery Fund and The Big Lottery Fund will back a small number of pioneering innovations, with a focus on finding the new business models that will enable our parks to thrive for the next century.

Voluntary and community sector organisations and public sector organisations from across the UK may apply for grants of between £50,001 and £100,000 as well as nonfinancial support to carry out their innovative ideas to make the UK's public parks financially sustainable.
