Greater Manchester state of the sector launch

This short film includes presentations and interviews at the Launch of the Greater Manchester state of the sector report in May 2013. The report was compiled from the findings of the first survey of Greater Manchester's voluntary and community sector and includes key statistics on the impact of the sector.

Manchester Christmas Markets - Stalls for Charities

Manchester Markets have a limited number of traditional market stalls at this year's Christmas Markets that they would like to offer to local charities to use for either retailing i.e sale of things like vintage clothing or Christmas cards etc (but not cash collecting) or as an information stall to increase awareness of your charity.

GiveGetGo! is back in North Manchester

GiveGetGo! is a free six session programme exploring volunteering opportunities and offering hands-on volunteering experience for young people.

GiveGetGo! is for anyone aged 16 to 19 from the Harpurhey and Charlestown areas of North Manchester, and is ideal for anyone who wants to learn more about volunteering, gain some experience and learn new skills for their CV.

Volunteer opportunities are chosen by participants and could include working with animals, arts-based projects, fundraising, working with elderly people and much more.

A New Direction for Mental Health Services

Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust is subject to strong implicit criticism of its performance in a recent document issued by Central Manchester Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). It is no longer intending to apply for Foundation Trust status. The full report on Mental Health Services on which the document is based is ready but has not yet been released.

The Disclosure and Barring Service launched its Update Service on 17 June.

The Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) launched its Update Service on 17 June 2013. This service is designed to deliver portability of disclosure and barring (formerly CRB) checks. It will allow a person to show a certificate to more than one employer and allow that employer to check whether the information on that person has changed since the certificate was produced.

Local Grant and Capacity Building Scheme 2013

ECORYS and Department of Health have announced the launch of the fourth Health and Social Care Volunteering Fund (HSCVF) local grant scheme 2013.

What is available?
The fund aims to enhance capacity in the health; public health and social care volunteering field and help organisations grow and develop. This is why HSCVF provides a combination of grant funding and capacity building support to organisations.

Grassroots Giving

This year, as Skipton Building Society celebrates its 160th anniversary, they have allocated 160 donations of £500 to help fund development for grassroots organisations in our communities.

The idea behind the Grassroots Giving campaign is to help community organisations, or groups, who only have access to limited funding from elsewhere. For this reason, registered charities will not be able to request funding via Grassroots Giving.

Public Health England Voluntary and Community Sector Engagement Strategy

Public Health England (PHE) are developing a voluntary and community sector (VCS) engagement strategy and are welcoming input from voluntary organisations.

They are currently building on comments already provided about VCS as advocates and mediators for public involvement, but would like some more specific and general information to get a feel for the best framework within which PHE can engage with voluntary organisations.

Many people in Manchester are finding it harder to cope with the pressures they face: making ends meet financially; getting and staying in a job and caring for children and loved ones. The stresses that people are dealing with increases the chance that they will experience poor mental health. Manchester Mind knows that there are even more challenging times ahead. Manchester Mind are looking for new trustees to join their Board to help to address those challenges and ensure that people experiencing mental health issues have the right support.
