Social Value Act

The Social Value Act came into force on 31st Jan 2013. It requires public bodies to consider how they can improve the social impact of the services they are commissioning as well as consulting on the services to be procured. So far none of the commissioning bodies in Manchester have indicated how they are intending to implement the Act.

A useful guide has been produced by Social Enterprise UK.

Fundraising Training for BME Groups with Voice4Change & MC-UK

Voice4change England are partnering with MC-UK to offer fundraising training for their members, and subsidised funding training to BME voluntary groups in the Greater Manchester Area.

BME mental health survey – volunteers needed

Anti-Stigma Research- £10 paid to participants
Time to Change has commissioned ETHNOS Research & Consultancy to conduct a survey of people from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups who have experienced mental illness. The aim of the survey is to identify the extent to which people experience discrimination as a result of their mental illness. This is one of the largest surveys of its kind ever undertaken in this country.

Manchester BME communities to develop new local cervical cancer awareness campaigns

Representatives from BME groups throughout the country have come together in Manchester to discuss ways of improving awareness of cervical cancer and the benefits of cervical screening.
The event (24th January), which was attended by over 50 participants, was co-hosted by the NHS Cervical Screening Programme and Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust as part of Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 2013. It represents part of an ongoing drive to reach women from BME groups.
