Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Devolution

Could you give us 10 minutes to talk about health?

As part of Greater Manchester’s Devolution agenda, for the first time Greater Manchester is taking control of £6 billion of public funding for health and social care from April 2016.

This will involve making decisions about some of the most important things in our lives - such as health and social care. It will also mean the transfer of certain powers and responsibilities from national government to all 37 NHS Trusts and Local Authorities in Greater Manchester.

Putting power into the hands of local decision-makers means they can better meet the needs of the people who live and work in this region. To help achieve this goal there is a five-year vision for better health and social care in Greater Manchester. The challenge is big a one.

Money available for public services is reducing every year. However the opportunity is also huge and the goal to see the greatest and fastest improvement to the health, wealth and wellbeing of the 2.8 million people in Greater Manchester is one we at Healthwatch Salford very much want to see realised.

Macc is working with partners across Manchester to ensure that your voice is heard. We want to help build a collective understanding of what hinders or helps people from taking charge of their health and wellbeing and making healthy choices, so we need your thoughts and experiences.

Below is a short video (2½ minutes) which explains the key ideas and the vision for what Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Devolution is all about.

When you’ve watched the video would really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to respond to the survey. We think this is an important opportunity – and only the first – for the public’s voice to be heard as the new vision for health and social care in Greater Manchester.

To encourage people to take part, the partners have included a competition! By sharing your views in the online conversation you will be entered into the prize draw for winning a set of family bikes.

We’re also working with Healthwatch Manchester and Manchester BME Network to arrange a number of community conversations about this. These will be taking place all across the city between now and the end of March.
