Rusholme U-Decide - apply for a grant for your community

Manchester City Council have money to invest in the Rusholme area to support projects that will benefit the local community.

Groups may only submit one application up to a maximum value of £2,000 and all project ideas must benefit the Rusholme Community.

Project ideas must be submitted by 23 May 2014.

Projects will be voted on by Rusholme residents at a U Decide Event, to be held on:
Date & Time: Monday 16 June 2014, 6pm
Venue: Trinity House Community Resource Centre, Grove Close, off Platt Lane, Rusholme M14 5AA

Santander Social Enterprise Development Awards

The Santander Social Enterprise Development Awards aim to support social enterprises and charities with trading activities looking to grow their business and improve their local community.

The Development Awards are targeted at established social ventures that have ambitions to develop their organisation but need a financial boost to help them realise their potential. SEDA is an annual competition with winners selected on the strength of their business plan for growth.

Supporting Older People and Reducing Pressure on Hospitals

This new £2m fund that will support services that use social action to help older people stay well, manage their conditions or recover from illness or injury, and thereby reduce pressure on hospitals.

Grants are now available to help Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises (VCSEs) and local NHS/social care organisations to develop innovative social action interventions that provide extra support to older people and help reduce pressure on hospitals this coming winter (2014/15).

Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities 2014-2015

The main purpose of the Neighbourhood Learning in Deprived Communities (NLDC) fund is to reach disadvantaged communities and individuals; to enable them to participate in learning, with progression towards further learning and/or sustainable employment as a key theme.

The City Council’s and Manchester Adult Education Service’s (MAES) priority is to tackle the issue of worklessness amongst key groups in the most deprived wards of the City, particularly those residents in receipt of out of work benefits. Therefore this is the target group for this funding.

BARC Welfare Fusion Community Cafe

The BARC Welfare Fusion café in St Lukes Church and Neighbourhood Centre, Longsight, was established following the closure of the Elderly Day Care Service during the summer of July 2013 whom many of the Elders, Trustees and Executive Committee were saddened to see close.

The Broad African Representative Council (BARC) put their ideas together and Fusion Community Cafe was born!

Opportunities and Activities are looking for a Treasurer

Opportunities and Activities is an independent initiative in Adult Education. Established in 1991, there are now 300 students, 37 classes and 14 tutors. Most classes are held at Union Chapel in Fallowfield, M14 6EQ.

Tutors are paid from the students' fees. The turnover is around £47,000 per year.

The Treasurer spends about four hours per week entering the income into Excel and arranging payments. At the beginning of term, there is a lot of work less mid-term. To give a fuller picture of the organisation other details, such as numbers and ages of students, are also recorded.

Macc, together with VYM and Manchester City Council jointly carried out an evaluation of Manchester City Council's Youth and Play Services Commissioning (2014/15) which has, as yet, not been published. The statement explains the position of Macc and VYM who want to see the evaluation published as soon as possible, and the steps that have been agreed with Manchester City Council to make this happen.
