Summary:
Literacy Champions at the Literacy Trust are self-led volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in their community. Volunteers will receive an initial induction and are then provided with resources and guidance to help them spread the word on the importance of literacy, share literacy activities and resources, go along to groups and events, and to share the magic of books through community swaps, borrowing and gifting. As part of our work Early Years work in Gorton & Abbey Hey we will also be offering additional training around Speech and Language support for families in the community. This will include training around the local offer and referral routes and the National literacy Trust programme, First Words Together including talking tips for under twos. There will be several opportunities to support this work via parent workshops, events, storytelling sessions and more.

We carry out a kerbside recycling service and reclaimed wood workshop, and run the Greater Manchester operation of the national food charity FareShare, which tackles food waste and fights food poverty by redistributing surplus (overstocked) food to good causes.
