247 People Fund – apply by 13 March 2019

The 247 People Fund aims to encourage small, community-based and locally controlled groups that manage themselves, encourage people to get involved as volunteers and who just need a bit of financial help to be able to work with their community in the way they’d like. 247 People

The Fund welcomes applications from organisations throughout Greater Manchester with an annual income of less than £50,000.

The Leader of the House of Commons, Andrea Leadsom MP visits Manchester to discover more about the exemplary Early Years services the city offers to young parents and families

As part of the visit, the MP, (who is leading a ministerial working group which will seek to identify gaps in available provision and make recommendations on how coordination across departments can be improved), met with Shelley Roberts, CEO of Home-Start Manchester, along with Rebecca, a young mum who has been receiving Home-Start support, and her volunteer Barbara.  Rebecca shared her story as how as an asylum- seeker fleeing domestic abuse, she had been receiving Home-Start support, and the difference it made to her life. Andrea Leadsom at Home-Start Manchester

Emotion-sensing technology to help young carers express social isolation through music

A new project will use cutting-edge ‘emotion-sensing’ technology to explore feelings of loneliness and social isolation experienced by young carers – and help them create music to give voice to their feelings. 

Launching on Young Carers Awareness Day (31 January), Greater Manchester-based charity gaddum, and Manchester Metropolitan University, will develop and trial the new technology.

The technology is based around the connection between mood and music, aimed at tackling youth loneliness and isolation among young carers.

In the latest newsletter Greater Manchester Poverty Action are delighted to share information about their current Principal Partners. In advance of the GM Food Poverty Alliance Action Plan Launch, Tom shares some data collected in a survey last year by GMPA and Greater Together Manchester about Holiday Hunger in GM. Real Change Rochdale was launched earlier this month and there is a feature article about this fund.

Big Lottery Fund and Heritage Lottery Fund rebrands

The two largest organisations that distribute money raised for ‘good causes’ through the sale of National Lottery tickets have unveiled refreshed brands that make a clearer link between playing the National Lottery and the good causes that benefit.

The Big Lottery Fund, the UK’s largest community funder, changes its name today to The National Lottery Community Fund – a move announced in September last year. They are joined by the Heritage Lottery Fund, which will be known as The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Office for Civil Society update: Preparing for EU Exit

OCS want to ensure the sector has access to all of the information the government has made available on preparing for EU exit.
