Homophobic, biphobic and transphobic (HBT) bullying grants

The government has made tackling all forms of bullying a top priority and has been clear that it does not want any young person to go to school dreading the treatment they will get. It is never acceptable for a child to be bullied, victimised or harmed in any way. Bullying is a priority in the Department for Education’s (DfE) National Prosepctus Grants Programme 2015/16. This is a separate grant funded by the Government Equalities Office (GEO) that specifically targets homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying. It is being administered by the GEO in conjunction with the DfE

UK Disability History Month: 22 November to 22 December 2014

The theme this year is War and Impairment: The Social Consequences of Disablement, focusing on World War I. Find out more about the impact of the First World War on the two million men disabled in combat and what happened on their return.

For the first time Manchester City Council have organised a series of events for UK Disability History Month.

Child Sexual Exploitation Review - Opportunity for VCS groups to contribute

Manchester City Council has commissioned an independent review of arrangements for dealing with Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE).

It will be conducted by Sheila Taylor of the National Working Group.

The aim of the review is to identify where things are working well and what needs to be improved.

Sheila is keen to ensure that the voluntary and community sector have input into the review.

Discussions will focus on your understanding, experiences and approaches to CSE

The event will be on 8 December at Manchester Town Hall.

Do something positive during Alcohol Awareness Week.

This year, Manchester City Council are focusing on the effects of alcohol on children’s lives as new research has found that 1 in 5 surveyed, know of a child or children who have been negatively affected as a result of other people’s drinking.

Take part in the Drink Wise Challenge to find out what more should be done to protect children from alcohol.

Watch out for advisors at venues around the city giving advice and ideas.
