New MDF and GMIAU information sheet on statutory support for destitute families

Migrant Destitution Fund (MDF) and Greater Manchester Immigration Aid Unit (GMIAU) have produced an information sheet about local authority support for destitute families in Greater Manchester. No-one should be forced into destitution because of their immigration status – especially children.

Advice Now: Local authority support for migrants with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) online workshop

Advicenow is excited to partner with Project 17 and Care Rights Project to deliver a free workshop focusing on support available for families and individuals who have no recourse to public funds. The course will be delivered online and is funded by The Disrupt Foundation.

This training looks at the support available under Section 17 Children Act 1989 and Care Act 2014 for migrants with no recourse to public funds (NRPF). It is aimed at frontline organisations who are regularly supporting people with NRPF.

RWP ESOL resources launch

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) has partnered with Manchester Adult Education Service (MAES), to create an online, free to use resource bank, designed to support informal, non-accredited ESOL classes across Greater Manchester. It will provide teachers and learners with resources that are user friendly, clearly organised and adaptable to a range of levels.

Open letter: Children's rights and recent migration policy

A range of recent migration and asylum policy and proposals, including earned settlement and the family returns consultation, risk undermining migrant children and care leavers' rights and safety, and exposing them to poverty, destitution and/or homelessness.

This public letter is intended to highlight concerns about the cumulative threat to children's rights from these policies and call on Government to put the welfare and rights of children at the heart of all migration and asylum policy.

Over two years Manchester Community Central on behalf of 10GM have hosted a series of open workshops focused on storytelling, community leadership, collaboration and influence. Following on from this, in 2025 we launched a peer support project in Greater Manchester.
