MRSNDuring the current outbreak of COVID-19, Manchester Refugee Support Network (MRSN) continue to support their clients remotely. MRSN have made some difficult and carefully considered decisions in order that the services they offer refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants groups can continue operating for as long as possible in this time of uncertainty.

ACORN Coronavirus Community Support

ACORNACORN Manchester have so far mobilised over 500 volunteers and responded to over 100 requests for help from people across the city. Through ACORN people isolating in their homes can request deliveries of food, other household supplies, and prescriptions, or a phone call to combat loneliness while isolating.

Housing LINIt is reported that there are 1.2 million chronically lonely older people in the UK and that the number of over-50s experiencing loneliness is set to reach two million by 2025/6. This will undoubtedly be exacerbated by COVID-19 with people experiencing increased social isolation and loneliness due to the current pandemic.

Vegetarian for LifeHundreds of community support groups have launched nationwide during the COVID-19 outbreak – offering shopping and more to vulnerable self-isolating people.

Some supermarkets are also putting together grocery boxes of handy essentials so that vulnerable people needn’t leave their homes at this time.

But a whopping 6.4 million people (10% of the total UK population) may have special dietary requirements.

Greater Manchester Clean Air Plan consultation update

Transport for Greater ManchesterTransport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) have announced that the statutory consultation on the Greater Manchester Clean Air Plan will be delayed, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The consultation had been planned for this summer. However, like other areas of the country, current circumstances have limited our ability to progress the delivery of the Clean Air Plan to previous timescales.
