The Expert Patients Programme

The Expert Patients Programme supports people with long-term conditions to regain as much control over their physical and emotional well-being as possible.

Patients have said they often need to develop different ways to cope with regular discomfort and not being able to do the things they used to do or would like to do.

The course is delivered in a group session once a week for 6 weeks, each session lasts for 2 ½ hours with a refreshment break.

It is an evidence based self-management programme and delivered at local venues across Manchester.

Talk Cancer bursary - free places available on cancer awareness training

Cancer Research UK are now offering those who are best-placed in their community to have such conversations, with the chance to attend one of our Talk Cancer training workshops – for free – through our new bursary scheme.

Directors sought at Together Dementia Support

Together Dementia Support is a relatively new, not-for-profit Community Interest Company whose objective is to support local people who are living with dementia, enabling them to lead active lives, giving and receiving support with others.

Together Dementia Support is successfully running several Friendship and Activity Groups in central/south Manchester and have plans to grow and develop this work.

Together Dementia Support wish to strengthen their board of directors and are seeking directors with experience in either HR, financial management, or bid writing.

Patient views sought to help shape sight saving service for diabetics

Patients across Heywood, Middleton, Rochdale, Oldham and Bury are being asked their views on diabetic eye screening.

The North East Diabetic Eye Screening Programme (NEDESP) is carrying out a review of screening sites and wants the views of diabetic patients on where they can go to be screened.

Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust - dragons den funding

The Greater Manchester West Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMW) dragons have identified another £150k non-recurrent funding for 2015/16 to support innovative proposals and ideas that will contribute to them achieving their Trust Quality Account priorities.

What do I need to do?
Just produce a short brief (no longer than a side of A4) outlining who you are, what you propose to do, which Quality Account priorities your bid covers and how much funding you need. No bid is too small but your bid should not exceed £10k.

Hepatitis c testing in Greater Manchester

What is Hepatitis C?
Hepatitis C is a virus that can infect and damage the liver. In most cases it causes no noticeable symptoms until the liver has been damaged. The hepatitis C virus is found in the blood of someone with hepatitis C infection and is usually passed on through blood-to-blood contact such as by sharing razors or toothbrushes, or by sharing unsterilised needles.

Pennington Bequest Fund

Applications for funding are invited from charities and community and voluntary organisations. Grants are provided for the provision of nursing or other charitable services for residents of Manchester, Salford and District who are in need of such help by reason of age, sickness or infirmity.

There is no limit to the size of the grant that you can apply for however grants of up to £1.000 have been approved by Trustees.

Staff wellbeing in the voluntary and public sectors - take the Guardian’s survey

Employee absence from work is persistently higher in the public and voluntary sectors than in other sectors, with stress increasingly blamed as the main problem.

Research shows that – on average – the annual absence from work in the public sector was 9.6 days, 8.3 days in the not-for-profit sector and 6.6 days in the private sector. This is costly for the sectors – with the median annual cost of public-sector absence being £899 per employee, which is nearly £300 more than other sector.
