Showcasing the spirit of the voluntary and community sector in Manchester
More events have been added to the Spirit of Manchester Festival - a citywide celebration of the amazing and invaluable services delivered by the voluntary organisations, community groups and social enterprises in Manchester.
HOME are looking for 15 of the region’s most promising young filmmakers and film fans aged 16-19 to take part in their BFI Film Academy 2015. This intensive 2 month project will cover everything from practical filmmaking to film theory, programming, distribution and certification.
Participants will learn from industry professionals and will be given opportunities to attend special events at HOME throughout the project. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to develop your TV or filmmaking career.
All over Manchester there are individuals, groups and voluntary organisations who are bringing their neighbourhoods together and making a big difference to community life.
Young and old are working together - indoors and outdoors - on local projects, large and small. They're continuing week in week out, providing vital support, giving their time, giving their skills or just their energy. Their projects are taking shape, growing, making real improvements and inspiring others to get involved too.
Southern Voices (Manchester) has received £60,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for an exciting project, ‘Out of the Shadows: 1914-18 Perspectives of Colonised People’ based in Manchester.
The project will explore the role and experiences of the colonised peoples of the British West Indies, Nigeria, India, German and British East Africa during the First World War.
The race is on to find England’s greatest sporting destination. VisitEngland, is on a quest to find the country’s top sporting destination, and has asked the public to send in their own nominations.
By submitting an image of their “home of sport” – be it Old Trafford or a hidden gem village green - sports fans across the country will help decide the jewel in England’s sporting crown.
The Spirit of Manchester Awards is a series of awards celebrating and highlighting all the excellent work being carried out in Manchester’s voluntary and community sector. As well as providing recognition to the sector in these hard times, we want to raise the profile of the sector amongst the general public and encourage local giving and active citizenship.

Arts Council England is offering grants through its new Research Grants Programme 2015-18 to provide opportunities for collaborative work to develop the evidence base around the impact of arts and culture.
