Manchester Climate Change – Our City’s shared plan to tackle climate change consultation

Cast your vote for the Best Community Space Spirit of Manchester Award 2016

Voting is now open to vote for the Best Community Space Spirit of Manchester Award 2016.

Award criteria
A community space can be a piece of land or a building available for use by the community. Organisations needed to show:
• Best use of a community space
• How the space is seen as central within the community
• The impact it has within the local community

Tesco Bags of Help grants

The Bags of Help grant funds capital projects that provide community benefit that do not charge for access. The community grant scheme will support thousands of community green space projects each year with between £8,000 and £12,000.

Tesco award grants each year in around 400 Tesco regions to make sure the funding is spread evenly across England, Wales and Scotland. In total the Bags of Help programme supports thousands of projects each year.

Research Project looking at wasted resources in the city – we need your views

We are currently working with a group of students from University of Manchester to look at wasted resources in the city. Could you help by completing our questionnaire?

We are looking to set up a way businesses can register their 'waste' unused assets, which will then be donated to a deserving community member or group.

The questionnaire won't take long to complete and all informationgiven will be treated as confidential and no individual responses (from named individuals or organisations) will be disclosed without permission.

Get involved in The Big Dig in Manchester on Saturday 16 April

It's about much more than digging. It’s about growing food and getting outside.
It’s about building raised beds and creating community. It’s about planting seeds and making new friends.

Ways to get involved:
• Find a garden to volunteer with on the day
• Promote the Big Dig to your friends and family to help support your local community gardens
• Attend the open day and have fun

Manchester Parks Strategy consultation

A public consultation on the proposed strategy for the long-term future of Manchester’s parks is under way.

The consultation gives everyone the chance to have their say on how they would like to see the city's parks and green spaces develop over the next decade.

The Council’s proposed vision for parks and green spaces sees them as vital, well-used community assets, with more opportunities for residents to be engaged in how they are run.

Register for free 2016 Grow Wild seed kits

Transform shared spaces into inspiring and colourful wild flower havens with simple seed sowing.

Join 25,000 people in the UK’s biggest ever wild flower campaign by sharing Grow Wild seed kits with groups where you live. There are thousands of free seed kits available.

All you need to do is register for seed kits on behalf of your group – or lots of groups. How about for your hobby clubs, neighbours, community project, youth group and the workplace. Anywhere people get together can register, from Thursday yoga to Sunday football.

Grow Wild community project funding

Grow Wild is awarding funding of £1,000 to £4,000 to community groups that want to bring people together to transform a communal space by sowing and growing UK native plants.

Grow Wild are looking to fund at least 60 groups in 2016 across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. There’s a lot of support available from the team during the three month application window in autumn 2015.

Tesco fund for green spaces

Communities across Britain are able to apply for up to £12,000 for local green space projects thanks to a new grant scheme being launched with the proceeds generated from the sale of Tesco carrier bags. It will fund capital projects that provide community benefit and have free and open access to all members of the community for a minimum of six days a week, during daylight hours.
