A Coach to Lytham - The Whitemoss Story

Today, the North City Nomads group took 240 elderly people in five coaches on a day out to Lytham St Annes. It was organised by 15 volunteers and everyone had the option of activities such as shopping and walking along the promenade. By giving the people of North Manchester the opportunity to go out and make new friends, it encourages the reduction of social isolation and encourages new and wider friendship groups.

Sharing life experiences - Wythenshawe Good Neighbours Story

“I know it’s Tuesday because I am going out to lunch and I don’t normally go out”. Every week for the past year, older people in Wythenshawe have had the opportunity to meet up for lunch at the Northenden Social Club. Apart from sharing a meal together, the lunch helps everyone to socialise and meet others in a community space.

Comic Relief – Active ageing: creating change in communities grants

Comic Relief have launched a £1.5 million fund to engage older people aged 65 and over from ‘harder to reach’ groups to get involved in opportunities which use their skills, knowledge and experience to contribute to their communities. Comic Relief are looking for proposals which put older people at the centre of the work, designing and developing activities or opportunities which meet their needs, interests and priorities.
