Lemn Sissay’s Manchester Christmas Dinner for Care Leavers needs the public’s generous support

Volunteers in Manchester, led by poet Lemn Sissay, are fundraising to provide a Christmas Dinner for 50 local Care Leavers, and they need the support of the local community to make it happen. The Lemn Sissay Foundation

For many Care Leavers in the UK, Christmas can be a difficult time, a day spent alone in a bedsit or hostel, feeling isolated and with nowhere else to go.

#iwill is a UK-wide campaign to promote meaningful social action, including volunteering, campaigning or fundraising, amongst young people aged between 10-20. During #iwill Week 2017 (November 20-24) help celebrate young people who lead social action and their capacity for bringing others together. The week marks the fourth anniversary of the campaign and is all about shining a light on the impact that young people are having, as well as the great work of the 700+ #iwill partners who’ve pledged to create more social action opportunities.

Greater Manchester Youth Network (GMYN) wants to get the message out about the importance of youth work in Manchester, specifically the contributions volunteers make to young people’s services. The theme of Youth Work Week this year is ‘Youth Services: youth work for today and tomorrow’ and GMYN know that many organisations benefit from the support of volunteers to help deliver youth work that young people learn and grow from and feel empowered by.
