Minister discusses GM Green Deal

MINISTER FOR CLIMATE CHANGE DISCUSSES THE GREEN DEAL

Greg Barker, Minister for Climate Change made a visit to Manchester on Thursday, May 9 to discuss Greater Manchester’s progress in pioneering the Green Deal.

The Minister met with housing, skills, building and energy experts from Greater Manchester’s Low Carbon Hub – made up of representatives from the ten local authorities and private sector businesses, whose aim is to reduce carbon emissions across the region by  48 per cent by  2020.

But they need your help to turn their vision into reality.

They want to plant street trees, add hanging baskets and create a green roof on top of the old toilet block.

Scale of Climate Week 2013

Climate Week in March 2013 involved a massive 3,500 events attended by half a million people across the UK. Social media activity was also huge - Climate Week was the top trend on Twitter.

Over 1,300 organisations promoted Climate Week in advance and 2,800 ran events during the week. Thank you and congratulations to everyone who has helped to make it Britain's biggest climate change campaign.

This morning I was in the happy position of being able to present our new research into the state of the voluntary sector in Manchester. It has been a long-held ambition of mine to be able to show the full extent of the enormous contribution which voluntary organisations, community groups, social enterprises and the community work of faith groups make to the city.
