Wolfson Foundation: Funding for Places Grants Programme

Twice a year, the Wolfson Foundation accepts applications from charitable organisations and educational establishments in the UK who are seeking grants for capital initiatives, i.e. buildings (new build or refurbishment) and equipment.

The Foundation funds a broad range of organisations working across the fields of education, science and medicine, health and disability, heritage and arts and humanities.

The size of the grants varies across the different programme areas.

Powering our Communities Fund

The Powering our Communities Fund is a grant fund for local community based projects with the aim of supporting a just energy transition by enabling communities to take part in the development and delivery of community energy projects.

Electricity North West are inviting applications for projects that support a just transition be enabling communities to take part in the development and delivery of community energy projects.

In particular, projects that can demonstrate how they can contribute to the delivery of one, or more, of the following priorities:

MCRactive European Capital of Cycling Small Grant Scheme

Manchester has been awarded the title of European Capital of Cycling (ECC) 2024. As part of this award Manchester Active is offering small grants to community groups to engage children and young people between the ages of 6-16 years in cycling, including putting on events and activities.

Manchester Active are offering grants of up to £500, however in exceptional circumstances or for multiple events, they will consider awarding grants of up to £1,000.

Hubbub and Starbuck’s Eat it Up Fund

The Eat it Up Fund was created last year with funding provided by Starbucks (using the money coming from Starbucks 5p cup charge) in partnership with Hubbub Foundation UK, an environmental charity.

Now in its second year, the grant fund is offering six grants of £60,000 each to support innovative ideas to tackle food waste in the UK. The grant must be used within a year.

The fund will support UK registered organisations with an early-stage food waste project with potential for impact at scale.

The funding is for initiatives that do one or more of the following:

Big Give's Christmas Challenge

Big Give's Christmas Challenge is the UK’s biggest match funded campaign. For seven days, supporters of participating charities can double their donations and, in doing so, make an extraordinary difference to the world’s biggest challenges.

Applications for Christmas Challenge 2024 open now and close on 5 July 2024, 5pm.

Synergi Fund Round 2: Democratising Policy

Synergi’s fund will work to support grassroots campaigning at the intersection between abolition, mental health and racial justice.

This fund will be for up to £5,000 to build power and take collective action on mental health and racial justice within an abolitionist framework.   

The Small Grants Fund is to support groups led by and for those racialised as BPoC, and have been harmed by/working on:

Nourish the Nation

Sainsbury’s Nourish the Nation programme, in partnership with Comic Relief, aims to tackle food poverty by helping people access the balanced, nutritional, and sustainable food they need, right now and in the future. The aim of the Fund is to provide school children (up to Year 11) with improved access to summer holiday activity and food schemes.

Nourish the Nation is offering 22 awards of £10,000 in the Greater Manchester area.

Forever Manchester Awards

The Forever Manchester Awards is now open for applications from grassroots community groups in Greater Manchester and is offering awards of up to £1,000.

Forever Manchester believes that connected communities make stronger, happier communities, so we love any activity that brings people together. Forever Manchester Awards support groups to run activities that do just this.

Sport England – Movement Fund

The new £160 million, four-year Movement Fund offers grants of between £300 and £15,000, crowdfunding pledges, and resources to improve physical activity opportunities for the people and communities who need it the most across England.

The new fund replaces Sport England’s existing Small Grants Programme, which is now closed to applications, and Active Together fund, which will close soon.

Tesco Community Pledge

Tesco and easyfundraising have come together for the second time to give a helping hand to voluntary groups, charities, and CICs working tirelessly to keep up with spiraling costs and rising demand. They will donate £1,000 funding pots to 5 community organisations this May.
