Services for Victims of Rape and Sexual Assault - call for evidence on what works

From April 2015, Tony Lloyd the Police and Crime Commissioner for Greater Manchester will take on new responsibilities for the commissioning of services for victims of crime and seek to ensure that there is a whole system approach that puts victims squarely at the centre. One vital element of that change relates to the commissioning of services for victims of rape and sexual assault.

Proposals invited for victims’ services commissioning

A fund of up to £12 million for Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) to use towards the commissioning of victims’ service in 2014/15 was announced recently by the Ministry of Justice. In Greater Manchester, there will be potential access to a maximum of £1.1 million.

The PCC for Greater Manchester is considering a number of proposals for commissioning already; however, he would also like to offer an opportunity to partners to put forward further suggestions for consideration and potential prioritisation.

Applications open for independent Ethics Committee

Greater Manchester is to be one of the first areas in the country to have an independent committee to scrutinise ethical standards in policing.

The behaviour, actions and decisions of police officers and staff must always be in support of the public interest. Public trust and confidence in policing as an institution is crucial to build safer communities, and to earn this police need to be open to scrutiny and be transparent.

The Challenge for Manchester

Before Christmas, Mike Wild (Chief Executive of Macc) and Nigel Rose (Macc’s Strategic Lead on Commissioning) met with Geoff Little (Deputy Chief Executive of Manchester City Council) and Carol Culley (Assistant Chief Executive, Finance and Performance).  We wanted to discuss the impact not just of the next wave of public sector cuts but the prolonged effects of recession. We also wanted to explore the Council’s views on how the voluntary and community sector can rise to meet the challenges faced by the communities in Manchester.

Greater Manchester Work Programme Leavers Tender

A new 3 year tender has been issued by Salford Local Authority on behalf of all the Greater Manchester Authorities for support into employment for people who have gone through the work programme and have not got a job. Bidders can apply to deliver support just for Manchester or for multiple authorities.  There is a meeting for potential applicants in Manchester on Thursday 5th December from 2-4pm at Friends Meeting House, 6 Mount St, M2 5NS.

Manchester City Council Advice Tender

A new tender from Manchester City Council has been advertised on The Chest. The tender is for advice services and is in 3 parts. Part 1 is for City-Wide Advice Services. Part 2 is for Targeted Individual/Family Advice Services. Part 3 is for a Framework Agreement for the Provision of Innovative Advice Solutions. All the tenders are for 1 year with the possibility of an extension for another year.

At our Spirit of Manchester awards event last month one of the categories was for Most Successful Campaign. We wanted to acknowledge campaigning work because we’ve always believed that it’s the job of charities not just to meet needs but to drive change for the longer term. The history of social change in this country has been driven by the campaigning efforts of groups for centuries.

Macc wins Council Infrastructure Contract

End hate crime - grants available for activities in your neighbourhood

Manchester wants to end hate crime by building on the city's reputation for celebrating diversity. You can help do this by holding an event or activity in your neighbourhood during Hate Crime Awareness Week. Your event should raise awareness of hate crime, including what it is and how people can report it.

Your group can apply for a grant of up to £200 to assist you to put on an event or activity in your neighbourhood. Events must take place between Monday 20 January 2014 and Sunday 26 January 2014.
