Voluntary and Community Sector group’s experience of the Manchester Common Assessment Framework

The Manchester Common Assessment Framework (MCAF) is a key part of Manchester’s Early Help Strategy and the Threshold of Need Document. Participation by voluntary and community sector (VCS) groups in MCAF is low in Manchester and nationally and the majority of engagement is with a small number of established medium to large voluntary sector organisations (£100,000 ->£1,000,000 funding) that employ professional staff.

Manchester City Council's Public Health Team are reviewing the mainstream School Nursing Service

Manchester City Council's Public Health Team are currently reviewing the mainstream School Nursing Service, which delivers school nursing provision to mainstream Primary and Secondary Schools, Academies, Free Schools, Pupil Referral Units and the Federation Schools.

They want to understand the experiences and expectations of the service from a wide range of interested parties and to assess how the service is currently meeting the needs of Manchester children, young people and their families.

FareShare Greater Manchester - Free food to play and youth providers

FareShare Greater Manchester fights hunger and tackles food waste by redistributing surplus food to over 100 charities in the region. They source food from the food and drinks industry, from donations and food drives, and also by capturing surplus edible fruit and vegetables at New Smithfield Market where they’re based.

On average they redistribute six tonnes of food every week.

FareShare Greater Manchester are keen to work with Manchester based play and youth providers over the summer holidays to help support children, young people and families at risk of food poverty.

Manchester Safeguarding Children’s Board Policy and Procedures update

Core Safeguarding Procedures
The Manchester Safeguarding Children’s Board (MSCB) and Executive have taken the decision to adopt the Greater Manchester Safeguarding Partnership (GMSP) online safeguarding procedures; these will replace the MSCB Core Safeguarding Procedures which were last updated in 2010.

Manchester City Council are carrying out a 30 day consultation of Sure Start services for under-fives.

Manchester City Council are improving services for the city’s young children and their families and are giving children a better start, reducing inequalities, and supporting those in greatest need. As part of these improvements they want your views on proposals to change the way Sure Start children’s centres are run, whether you use the centres or not.

Manchester groups asked to participate in short safeguarding survey for Manchester Safeguarding Children Board

Manchester Safeguarding Children's Board (MSCB) is keen to understand how much people who work with children and young people know about safeguarding in order to understand if there are any areas where further information and training is needed across the City. They are asking groups from the public and voluntary sector to select a small number of staff (3-5) who work with children and young people to undertake a short survey about safeguarding within their organisations.

Joint Statement from Macc and VYM on Youth and Play Services Evaluation

BBC Children in Need Main Grants – deadline 15 May 2014

The BBC Children in Need Main Grants programme is open to charities and not-for-profit organisations applying for grants over £10,000 per year for up to three years.

Grants are given for:
Children and young people of 18 years and under experiencing disadvantage through:
1. Illness, distress, abuse or neglect
2. Any kind of disability
3. Behavioural or psychological difficulties
4. Living in poverty or situations of deprivation
